PTC Council approves newly revised impact fee plan for jail

The Peachtree City Council has signed off on the newest version of a resolution to collect the county-wide jail impact fee.

Two changes were made to the resolution since it was originally approved by council, Mayor Bob Lenox explained at last week's council meeting.

First, a provision to automatically renew the agreement for a second 20-year period was deleted, Lenox said. Instead, the second 20 years must be approved by all the municipalities, he added.

Second, language was inserted to make sure the county continues to house all prisoners from each city, Lenox said. He said the county had recently indicated the county jail was overcrowded and the cities would need to find another way to house the prisoners they've been sending to the jail.

Such language wasn't in the agreement before, Lenox said, adding that he thought it was important to have it in there.

The other city councils "are adamant about it, and I agree," Lenox said.

Council also approved the capital improvement element of the county comprehensive plan as it pertains to jail impact fees, a document that outlines the need for the new jail and how the impact fees will be collected.
