Landmark runners repeat as state champs

South Fulton has a state champion.

Landmark Christian School's boys cross country team Saturday won first place in the state cross country championships at Carrollton High School, dominating Class A competition.

The Landmark boys and girls ran in the Class A meet, while the Fayette County High School boys and the McIntosh girls ran in the Class AAAAA meet.

Landmark's boys won for the second year in a row, while the girls placed fourth overall. The McIntosh Lady Chiefs finished in third place while the Fayette County boys placed seventh.

Landmark's boys team had four finishers in the top ten and scored 38 points overall. Blake Fertitta finished second overall with a time of 17:07. He was followed by Clark Rivers in third place at 17:10, Eric Sumner in fifth place (17:33) and Joe register in eighth (17:50).

The Landmark Lady War Eagles placed fourth overall with 132 points. Melissa register placed ninth overall with a time of 22:24.

For the Fayette County varsity boys, it was the best season ever.
