Commission race narrowed to two

By JOHN THOMPSON

South Fulton voters will head to the polls Nov. 28 and make the final decision on who will be their county commissioner.

Tuesday night's results showed Khadijah Abdur-Rahman leading the pack of 13 candidates with 13 percent of the vote for County Commission District 7, followed by Bill Edwards with just over 11 percent.

Abdur-Rhaman has maintained a relatively low profile in the race and did not attend a recent forum sponsored by the South Fulton Chamber of Commerce or respond to questions from the League of Women Voters.

Edwards is owner of an Allstate Insurance agency in College Park and is president of the Old National Merchants Association.

In the other high profile race in Fulton County, District Attorney Paul Howard withstood a challenge from John Turner.

Howard had come under fire for his prosecution efforts in the Ray Lewis murder trial, but hung on to his position.

Howard won with 123,356 votes for 54 percent of the vote, while Turner captured nearly 46 of the votes with 103,953.

Fulton County voters also gave nearly 60 percent of their votes to Vice President Al Gore. Gore received 144,029 votes to Gov. George W. Bush's 93,981.
