Creating the real estate office of the future

Starr's Mill Realty has just introduced an alternative solution to the traditional workplace which allows their sales associates to better serve clients and work more efficiently.

Sales associates work out of their home offices using laptop computers equipped with a suite of software for handling work processing, electronic spreadsheets and computer-based presentations.

"Most sales associates spend a majority of their time out of the office, viewing properties and meeting with clients," said Carolyn West, broker-owner of Starr's Mill Realty. "We decided to redirect the funds typically used to lease large office space and invest instead in technology and resources that support our sales professionals' mobile work styles and client information needs. By leveraging technology, we can deliver exceptional service to our buyers and sellers."

When a Starr's Mill Realty sales associate visits a client, they electronically access information available on the MLS (Multiple Listing Service). Agents can show buyers what is currently available on the market and show sellers what has sold in the same price range as their home, all from the comfort of the client's kitchen table. With the push of a button, a client's home listing can be added directly in the MLS, so that over 20,000 potential agents and buyers will have immediate access to their property.

"Personally, the new system makes me much more efficient and organized. I can better keep up with all of my listing and closing activities. I'm always on top of the next step to help my clients in the buying or selling process," said West.

"There is always a better way to do business," West continued. "This is the way of the future."
