Wednesday, November 8, 2000 Home sales strong, prices high in Fayette Recent statistical analyses have shown that surprise! Fayette County has the highest median price for new homes in the metro Atlanta area. New home prices jumped nearly 20 percent to $233,900 for the 12-month period that ended June 30, according to a study recently published in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Both the price and the percentage of increase were the highest in metro Atlanta for that time period. Interestingly, Fayette was the only county in which the total number of new home sales actually decreased from the previous 12 months. New home sales increased 12 percent and resales rose 9 percent for the entire metro area. Out of 23 metro ZIP codes with more than 100 homes selling for $350,000 or above, the 30269 area of Peachtree City was included with a total of 118. Most of the ZIP codes on that list are in Fulton County. The 30269 ZIP code also accounted for the most total home sales in Fayette County 1,089 over 12 months at a median price of $188,400. That was a 3-percent drop from the previous year's volume, however, and only 241 were new home sales, a 20-percent decrease that likely reflects how much closer Peachtree City has come to being built out. The next two busiest areas in the county in total home sales are 30214 and 30215, both in Fayetteville. Sales fell 8 percent to 825 in the 30215 ZIP code, although the median price rose 7 percent to $188,000. The 30214 area saw a 33-percent jump in volume to 591, with the median price at $155,900. Fayette also sets itself apart from surrounding counties in the $120,000-140,000 home sales category, or what is often referred to as "midpriced" homes. Of the new homes sold in Fayette during the 12 months ending June 30, only 2 percent were in that price range.
