Impact fee issues still up in the air

Work continues on an intergovernmental agreement to get the Fayette County government and all of the cities on the same page with regard to the jail impact fee issue.

Fayetteville City Manager Joe Morton reported at Monday night's City Council meeting that the parties were making progress after Fayetteville previously objected to a portion of the proposed agreement.

A sticking point in the agreement was Fayetteville's request that a paragraph be added stating the county would house city prisoners at no cost to the city for the term of the agreement.

According to city staff, the county did not include that change in the final version of the agreement, and Peachtree City approved an agreement without it. The county has maintained that an agreement already in place covers housing of prisoners, but Fayetteville officials contend that it can be terminated on an annual basis.

The issue was taken off the City Council's consent agenda after Wednesday night's workshop meeting, and it will be considered again at the next meeting.
