Commission to discuss traffic light project
By DAVE
HAMRICK Fayette County commissioners Thursday will revisit a joint project with Fayetteville designed to ease traffic coming through the city on its state highways. The group several months ago agreed to share the cost of installing fiber optic technology to interconnect the traffic signals on Ga. highways 54 and 85, so the lights can be synchronized for better traffic movement. Fayetteville officials want to expand the project to include traffic lights on Ga. Highway 314 up to Fayette Pavilion. Also concerning traffic lights, commissioners will discuss a proposal to put a light at New Hope Road and Hwy. 314, possibly also connecting that light with the rest of the lights. Commissioners also will consider a request from the Marietta Housing Authority that the county allow local lenders to participate in a down payment assistance program. The program will provide a 4 percent down payment assistance plus a first mortgage loan to any home buyer earning up to 150 percent of the Atlanta area's median family income, which is $94,650.
