Wednesday, November 1, 2000 Profiles of Senior Volunteers in Fayette Vicki Turner
Vicki Turner says she guesses that volunteerism is "just in my blood." Her parents were both involved in their community. Turner said she could still remember her father coming home from work, then going out to sell brooms and mops to raise money for the Shriners, Masons and Lions Clubs. Her mother was a member of the women's groups for the organizations plus she taught Sunday School and was active in school activities. Turner's activities are many and are varied. She is in her second year on the Board of Fayette Senior Services and is actively working to help raise funds for the new senior center. Andy Carden, Director for Fayette Senior Services, commented, "Vicki Turner has been very committed to Fayette Senior Services with extra hours given to the Board as a member and several committee assignments: New Building Capital Campaign Committee, Country Concert, and extra projects requiring her talents and time." Turner is active in the Metro Fayette Kiwanis and through the club helps out in many areas. The group raises money to support Fayette Senior Services, the American Cancer Society, local schools activities, the Fayette Samaritans, Christian City and a long list of Fayette County charities. Currently Turner is on the Executive Board for the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, is co-chair of the Chamber's annual Business Expo, serves as an Ambassador and is on the Membership Committee. This year she will also be on the Leadership Fayette Committee. Elissa Hall, President of the Chamber, says, "Vicki is generous and considerate with her time and talents. In addition to all she does for the Chamber, she co-chaired the Business Expo for the past two years and as a result our Business Expo has received high ratings from the business partners that participate as well as from those that attend the event." Turner recently joined the Society of Fine Arts in Fayetteville and is an active member in her church. She has lived in the county for 29 years and has two children Michelle, who works for Coweta-Fayette EMC, and Christie, who works for the Fayette County Development Authority. Turner is the Vice President and Marketing Director for AIS Computers in Fayetteville and works side-by-side with husband and President of the company, Tommy.
