Profiles of Senior Volunteers in Fayette

Dot Kite

Countless people in Fayette County have unknowingly been helped by Dot Kite through the years.

She has been a Board member for Fayette Senior Services since 1995. She has served as chairman of the membership committee and is a member of the capital funds committee and funds development committee which is responsible for the annual Country Concert hosted by Fayette Senior Services.

She has been an active member of the Metro Fayette Kiwanis since 1993, serving as Vice President, Treasurer and a board member. Her smiling and supportive face can be seen at most of the Kiwanian fund raisers and community efforts including the annual Fun Run, Pancake Breakfast and the monthly Adopt-a-Mile clean up program.

Through her business, Dot Kite State Farm Insurance, she is a charter member of Main Street Fayetteville. She is one of the monthly Master Readers as a Partner in Education with East Fayette Elementary.

The Rotary Club is another of her community involvements. She is a past board member, was honored to be selected as Rotarian of the Year and is the past Georgia Rotary Student Program trustee.

For most, being a part of one group or supporting one charity would be sufficient. There are many who join groups just to see their names on a list or to be able to say they support a charity.

Kite seems to be one who has an unlimited capacity to give and who always has time to lend an ear, help someone in need or share a smile. She is not one to join a group without giving 100 percent.

Her involvement with the Rotary, Kiwanis and Fayette Senior Services is only the beginning of the list of civic and charities she supports.

She is a charter member of the Fayette Community Hospital Auxiliary. She is a member of the Women's Council of Realtors and a member of the Greater Atlanta Homebuilders.

She also participates in civic activities and organizations such as Wings Over Dixie. She worked on the YMCA play park. She annually sponsors local sports teams, donated to the YMCA, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, the Friday Home, the Sams School through the purchase of ads, and is one of the first to step up to the plate to help in other ways.

Even writing about her activities is tiring trying to follow her for a day or week would seem a super human effort. However, the list of involvements continues!

She was recently appointed to serve on the Development Authority by the Fayette County Board of Commissioners. She is also very active in the Chamber of Commerce, serving on the Board of Directors for the group.

She was the chair of the board in 1998 and has attended the annual Washington Fly-in and Georgia Dome Roam. She has served on numerous Chamber committees, helping with the membership drives, the golf committee for three years, and has been an Ambassador since 1995.

Dot Kite State Farm Insurance and Kite recently won the 2000 Small Business of the Year Award. The award is given based on community service, involvement in the Chamber and strong business practices. She has qualified for the State Farm President's Club for the past five years and is now a lifetime member of the club.

The unflappable Kite doesn't stop on Sundays. She has been an active member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church since 1985, has served on the church's Finance Committee and is a member of the Family Sunday School Class.

Her caring and concern is also evident in her business. One example of how she takes her heart to work with her is highlighted by the fact that when one of her policy holders developed Alzheimer's Disease, she, and others, stayed with the husband periodically so the wife could shop, took the car to get it washed and helped with minor chores.

Kite's involvement and business success has resulted in the awarding of many awards, including the Small Business of the Year Award. However, it is obvious to all who know her that she is not motivated by, nor does she seek, recognition.
