Parenting series set at Heritage School

Noted author and speaker Dr. Sylvia Rimm will speak Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at The Heritage School in Newnan.

Her appearance marks the second in the series of free parenting workshops sponsored by the school.

Rimm is the author of "See Jane Win: The Rimm Report on How 1000 Girls Became Successful Women." She will discuss the unique challenges of parenting and educating girls. A familiar face from appearances on NBC's "Today Show" and "Weekend Today," Rimm also hosts a weekly public radio program, "Family Talk with Sylvia Rimm," which is broadcast nationally.

"Dr. Rimm is a welcome voice of calm and reason someone who offers practical advice, with almost immediate results," said Katie Couric, host of NBC's "Today" program.

Rimm's book has been featured on the "Oprah Winfrey Show" and in People magazine. She is a child psychologist who directs the Family Achievement Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio and is a clinical professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

Rimm follows Dr. Michael Thompson, who was the first speaker in the series in August. Thompson spoke to a standing-room-only crowd on parenting and educating boys.

The third speaker in this series will be Dr. John Rosemond, who will appear at Heritage Tuesday, Feb. 20.

"We were so pleased at the attendance for Michael Thompson in August," said Tommy Hudgins, Heritage's headmaster. "Parents and teachers from many schools in Coweta and Fayette counties were represented. We hope that Dr. Rimm will be equally well received. As the father of two daughters, I can assure you that I am very interested in what she has to say."
