Prince of Peace has its own 'God Squad'

Not every church can boast of a "God Squad" who travels about doing good deeds.

The Prince of Peace Lutheran Church has one; it is composed of about 75 youths who are active in this combination choir and drama group.

In 1999 it traveled to Texas and this year it traveled to Savannah to conduct a retreat and to perform for three churches there. It also was invited to perform at a Lutheran gathering of 500 people at College, South Carolina.

At Christmas time the whole congregation of 900 members will be participating in "Operation Christmas Child," a ministry begun by Franklin Graham. They will be filling a shoe box with something practical and toys and perhaps a piece of clothing. Prince of Peace expects to send more than 200 shoe boxes to Virginia, where they will be combined with others from all over the States and then shipped overseas.

The building committee has been hard at work planning its new Community Life Center, due to begin next spring.

When completed it will hold 500 in a worship setting, and will contain a fully equipped kitchen for fellowship dinners.

It will have a stage across one end for the "God Squad" performances, yet have plenty of space for athletic events. There will also be some new Sunday School rooms.

Texas native the Rev. Justin P. Kollmeyer serves as the senior pastor and said that plans for the Christmas cantata are now in place. It will be given by all the church's choirs Sunday, Dec. 17.

There will be four candlelight Communion services on Christmas Eve. Check with the church for the times.

Among the local ministries, the church supports the Fayette Samaritans, which began at Prince of Peace.

Services at the church are at 8:15 a.m., a contemporary worship service is conducted at 9:45 a.m., Sunday School is at 9:45 a.m. and a liturgical worship service is at 11.

Plans are underway to add an additional Sunday School time.

The church is at 257 Ga. Highway 314 and can be reached at 770-461-3403.
