Adopt-A-Park program is working in Peachtree City

Peachtree City's parks are staying clean thanks to help from local residents, groups and organizations who have adopted 14 parks and tot lots, the Recreation Department has reported.

The program began in April and has grown to be quite a success, said Adopt-A-Park representative Joyce Williams.

"Our maintenance crew is seeing a significant difference in our parks with less litter on the ground since the program was put into effect," Williams said. "Also, participants are alerting us when they have extra piles of branches or an overflow of trash after doing a clean up."

Participants are also helping notify when parts of their parks need special attention by recreation staff, Williams added.

"We are getting some great feedback," she said.

More than one resident, organization or business can adopt a park, making it easier for families or small groups to help at a large park.

The program began with several groups participating, including Brownie Girl Scout Troop 254, Cub Scout Pack 211, Friends, Ivy Green Lawn Service, Inc., The Net Homeschoolers and an anonymous citizen.

More participants who enrolled in the program recently include:

Bryan Joyner, Smokerise Park

The Christman and Goodman families, Windalier tot lot

The O'Connor family, Braelinn Road tot lot

The Moms Club of Peachtree City, an area of Pebblepocket Park

The Higgason family, Blue Smoke Park

The Randstad temporary employment agency, Luther Glass Park

The Lossner family, Rubicon tot lot

Boy Scout Troop 270, Huddleston Pond

An anonymous family, Big Pine Park

Gamma Phi Beta, Braelinn Green tot lot

For more information on joining the Adopt-A-Park program, contact the Recreation Department Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 770-631-2542.
