Newnan Utilities moves into Tyrone
By JOHN
THOMPSON
Before long, Newnan Utilities may have to change its name. Late last week, Tyrone officials gave the Newnan company permission to draw up a franchise agreement between the town and the utility franchise. Newnan Utilities will offer residents Internet and cable service. Eventually, the service could include phone service, said Tyrone Town Manager Barry Amos. "The Town Council just believes that residents need a choice," he said. Currently, the town is served only by At&T Broadband for cable service. Amos said residents can receive 19 channels for $8.50 or 75 channels for $24.95. Residents also can choose from a wide variety of premium movie channels, including all the movie channels for $19.95. High-speed Internet access will be offered at $25 a month. "We hope competition will bring the cost down," Amos said. Newnan Utilities has pledged to be serving all residents who want the company's services within a year, he said.
