Military scholarships available to 2001 grads
Georgia's 2001 high school graduates interested in a military career have an opportunity to apply for two military scholarship programs offered by the Georgia Student Finance Commission, according to Glenn Newsome, GSFC executive director. "The scholarships are funded by the Georgia General Assembly and are designed for graduates who want a first class education as they prepare for service in our Georgia National Guard," Newsome said. The two scholarships are: A four-year North Georgia College and State University military scholarship. Application deadline is Jan. 2. A two-year Georgia Military College state service scholarship. Application deadline is Feb. 1. Both scholarships cover full tuition costs, fees, housing, meals, books and supplies. Both programs offer 33 scholarships three each from Georgia's 11 congressional districts and require a service commitment in the Georgia National Guard upon graduation. Applicants must be nominated by a member of the General Assembly who represents the district with the U.S. congressional district where the applicant lives.
