Outdoor display rules approved by PTC council By JOHN MUNFORD
After local merchants provided their input on Peachtree City's proposed outdoor storage ordinance, the City Council gave the measure its official blessing Thursday night. Council unanimously adopted the ordinance, which will regulate the size and nature of outdoor displays at local retailers. Jim Williams, the city's director of developmental services, said the input from local merchants helped strengthen the ordinance and insure it wouldn't hurt smaller businesses. "We've had input from between 20 and 30 members of the Chamber of Commerce and other businesses," Williams noted. The ordinance limits all outdoor displays to a space up to 6 feet wide by 12 feet long unless the store uses an enclosed space or has approval for such a space in a site plan approved by the planning commission. Stores can also get up to four week-long temporary use permits per year that could allow the displays to be larger. The ordinance also forbids selling items from trucks or trailers (such as pinestraw) unless such sales occur in an enclosed area. It also regulates the amount of time a delivery truck can remain parked at a store and restricts the display of trucks which show a large amount of advertising.
