News Briefs

• Atlanta Archbishop John F. Donoghue will dedicate St. Matthew Catholic Church in Tyrone today, beginning with a 2 p.m. celebration of the Mass. The new church building is adjacent to Our Lady of Victory Catholic School in Tyrone, just off Ga. Highway 74 on Jenkins Road. St. Matthew is also celebrating its 22nd year of service to the south Atlanta metro communities of College Park, Fairburn, Fayetteville, Newnan, Palmetto and Peachtree City. The church, pastored by the Rev. Leo Holleran, MS, was originally in Fairburn.

• The Fayette Community Coalition for Fayette Schools will host a town hall meeting on the proposed bond referendum for school construction Monday at 7:30 p.m. at Sams Auditorium in Fayetteville. The referendum will be on the Nov. 7 General Election ballot. Citizens will be given time at the meeting to ask questions about the program.

• The Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission meets Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall. Agenda items include a rezoning request for The Villages at LaFayette Park on Ga. Highway 54 at Tiger Trail, development plans for Fayette Floor and Wall on First Manassas Mile Road, and a variance request for Dyche Corporation on East Georgia Avenue.

• The Fayetteville First United Methodist Church Youth Fellowship is selling pumpkins every day until Halloween, from 10 a.m. until dark. Proceeds will be used for the group's monthly mission projects and retreats.
