John Thompson, Fayette County school transportation director, has resigned, effective Oct. 31, the Board of Education learned Monday night.

Thompson cited the tremendous toll the job has taken on his time, and the need for him to address some things in his personal life, as his reasons for leaving.

"I have been presented with an administrative position in a building," he said, referring to a job he plans to take outside Fayette County. Thompson has been transportation director here for 10 months.
