The congregation of the First Christian Church of Tyrone began in 1899 under a brush arbor in College Park, moved to Old National Highway in 1966, moving again in 1995 to Tyrone.

Throughout all this time its mission has not wavered. It is a church with a heart for ministry, dedicating itself to the biblical idea that every believer is called by God to serve in His kingdom.

Leading the way is its minister, the Rev. Wye Huxford. Asked over a year ago where he would like the congregation to go, he replied, "I would like to see us become even more involved in missions around the world."

Indeed they have, with Huxford teaching this summer at a Christian college in Mexico. Six others from the church traveled to Mexico to help build a church.

The congregation supports the Seminary of the Nations, which offers college level instruction to missionaries around the world.

It also supports on a regular basis Steve and Debbie Palich, who serve in Mexico as the Latin American coordinators for Christian missionaries.

The church conducts a blood drive each quarter and the next one will be Nov. 29.

Sunday morning worship is at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m., with Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday evenings a fellowship meal is offered at 5:45, with youth and adult study electives at 6:30.

The church is at 294 Jenkins Road, Tyrone, and can be reached at 770-969-7346.
