Church captures feeling of fall with festival, BBQ, quilt auction By CAROLYN CARY Fall is definitely in the air and that must mean that festivals are just around the corner. The Ebenezer United Methodist Church will have its fall festival Saturday, Oct. 28 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Every church fund-raising event has a purpose and the purpose of this one is to establish a perpetual care fund for the church's cemetery. There are approximately 375 grave sites just east of the church. About 10 of these have death dates in the 1890s; all others are after the turn of the century. The congregation dates back to the 1880s. A chicken barbecue will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the price is $6.50 for adults and $3.50 for children. The Men's Club will prepare the barbecue with all the trimmings. The country store will be selling bakery and home canned goods, intriguing white elephants and delightful crafts, including ones for Christmas gifts. There will be plenty of activities and fun for everyone, including the children. An old fashioned cake walk will be one of the highlights. The United Methodist Women of the church have spent the past five months working on a quilt, which will go to the highest bidder at a silent auction. Slips to enter the auction will be available until 4:30 p.m., at which time the winner will be selected. The minimum bid is $200. Serving as coordinator of the event is Vivian Salisbury, who also worked on the quilt. Also showing their skill with needle and thread were Catherine Thomas, Maynard Brown, Patsy Banks, Lynda Michler, Elsie Williford, Lois Laster, Marilyn Grovenstein and Viva Huddleston. The Rev. Charles Grovenstein serves as pastor. The church is at 680 Ebenezer Church Road and can be reached at 770-631-0306 or 770-463-2100.
