City council candidate fights back By JOHN THOMPSON Senoia City Council candidate Ken Gordon is fighting back. Last week, Gordon was the subject of a letter to the editor from current council member Judy Belisle. Belisle leveled a number of charges against former councilman Gordon. In a letter to The Coweta Citizen Review this week, Gordon disputed Belisle's statements. "I believe Ms. Belisle's animosity generates upon jealousy and misinformation, along with not being knowledgeable upon the laws of this state," he wrote. Gordon said he had never promised to give Belisle a ride back to the hotel on a council trip to Chicago to examine the city's sewer system. "I left numbers where I was going to be and was never contacted. I fail to see what this has to do with being on city council. Apparently Ms. Belisle believes you need to be a taxi service," he said. Belisle also questioned Gordon representing the Citizens for Good Government in Senoia and said it could be an "undesirable" group. "I am shocked and dismayed that you would refer to taxpayers, citizens and voters in Senoia as undesirable," Gordon said. Gordon added that he knew of no ordinance in the city that required a group to furnish a list of members to the Council. "I remember a European dictator that required that many years ago, but thank goodness he's gone forever," said Gordon. The final issue Gordon took exception to was Belisle's charge that Gordon violated the Open Meetings Act and had conflicts of interest during his tenure on the council. "If Ms. Belisle knew the definition of conflict of interest, she wouldn't have mentioned this at all. If you want to find a conflict of interest, maybe she should look in her own backyard. Having a friend appointed to a position in the city, then raising his/her salary immediately, sounds like a conflict of interest to me," he said. Gordon closed the letter by saying he would put his record and reputation as a councilman against anyone else in the forum of candidates.
