Ordinance limits space and length of outdoor displays

A proposed ordinance designed to control outdoor displays of goods in commercial areas of Peachtree City has been beefed up.

Now, the space for those displays would be limited to six feet by 12 feet long. And the items in the display can't be stored outside for more than 24 hours at a time.

The only way around those regulations would be for a store to get a temporary use permit which would last up to seven days. Those permits, however, would be limited to a maximum of four per store each year.

Another change, however, would allow for items to be sold from a truck or trailer if they are in an area designated for that use or if the area has been approved by the Planning Commission during the site plan review process.

The previous version of the ordinance forbade the sale of items from trucks or trailers.

The Peachtree City Council is expected to act on this new version of the outdoor display ordinance at its next meeting Thursday.

Jim Williams, the city's director of developmental services, told the Peachtree City Planning Commission that the changes helped strengthen the language in the ordinance.

The outdoor display ordinance also addresses the storage of trucks and trailers in commercial areas, limiting the time they can park up to two hours after a delivery is made. Overnight sleeping in those trucks will be forbidden also.

Trucks will be able to park longer than two hours if they are in an area that has been approved by the Planning Commission during the site review process.
