Planning commission
approves plan to clear PTC Promenade
By JOHN MUNFORD The Peachtree City Planning Commission approved a plan to pre-clear and pre-grade the site for the Peachtree City Promenade retail center on Ga. Highway 54 and Shakerag Hill. But it took clearing up several items that confused both commission members and Promenade developer Bill Dyer. Dyer wanted to pre-grade and pre-clear the land for the second phase of the development, which is slated to become an office building. That project won't be under construction for a while, so Planning Commission member Robert Ames said he was uncomfortable with approving the pre-clearing and pre-grading request. Dyer said he thought the commission wouldn't have a problem with the request, based on conversations he had with city planner David Rast. Dyer added that forcing him to wait until the office building goes under construction could cost $150,000. The request was eventually approved by the commission 3-2. The commission also unanimously approved a request from Braelinn Baptist Church for a temporary use permit so it can put another modular classroom unit on its campus. The church already has three such classrooms on its property. But the church also has secured land in Tyrone and is attempting to sell its current site so it can relocate. The modular classrooms are leased and would not be sold as part of the property, a church spokesman told the commission. The city also is looking into whether the church has secured the yearly temporary use permits for the other three classrooms.
