Industrial park
land a steady sell
By JOHN MUNFORD According to recent estimates, Peachtree City has enough land at its industrial park to last another 20 or 30 years. Tate Godfrey, a member of the Peachtree City Development Authority, briefed the Peachtree City Planning Commission on the status of the industrial park at the commission's meeting Monday night. Only 543 acres remain in the industrial park, with 80 acres being sold this year alone to 10 different companies, Godfrey said. In the past seven years, 375 acres have been sold in the park and currently land around the airport has drawn interest, Godfrey added. The property, which is owned by Pathway Communities, is not being marketed to "process" industries since the city's sewer system doesn't have the capacity to handle them, Godfrey said. "We do turn down some companies," Godfrey said, adding that some companies "aren't a fit with Peachtree City." "Most of the companies we're getting now are clearly high-tech," he said. The largest chunk of land left in the industrial park area is over 175 acres near the Cooper Lighting building on Ga. Highway 74 South, Godfrey said. Godfrey estimated that industries make up 17 percent of the city's ad valorem (property) tax base, although that doesn't affect county taxes much since the industrial park in Peachtree City is the only one in the county.
