Commission revising city's land use plan

The Peachtree City Planning Commission has started the tedious process of updating the city's land use plan.

The plan, which details the ideal use for properties throughout the city, was last updated in 1995. At Monday's meeting, the commission focused on undeveloped commercial areas throughout the city.

On Ga. Highway 74 north of Wisdom Road, the commission decided to have all commercially zoned land earmarked for office-institutional use, with the exception of the Leach property. The three tracts referred to as the Leach property, totalling 6.62 acres on the east side of Highway 74 north of Wisdom Road, would be limited use commercial since it is already being marketed for commercial use.

South of Wisdom Road, the few remaining lots designated for general commercial use would remain unchanged.

On Hwy. 54 west of Hwy. 74, the commission decided to earmark only one lot for open space since it's on the western side of MacDuff Parkway. The other commercial lots on the eastern side of MacDuff were left unchanged.

In the Glenloch area, three undeveloped parcels will be designated as office-institutional. In the Crosstown Road area, a parcel next to Kaufman Tire, currently zoned general commercial, was unchanged.

On Hwy. 74 south, the commission decided not to touch the general commercial designation on the Wilshire Pavilion's three outparcels. But Jim Williams, the city's director of developmental services, indicated the area across 74 from there should not be industrial south of Line Creek.

Williams said the commission needs to look closely at the land north of the Katz property on the west side of Hwy. 74 north. The Katz property was recently rezoned to residential by council, but several citizens have expressed concern that the property to the north of the Katz land not become commercial.
