Busy Saturday in
Peachtree City includes first Memory Walk, bikers and pumpkins
By JOHN MUNFORD If you're anywhere near Peachtree City Saturday morning, chances are you'll run into a walker, a runner or a biker. And if you can wait until the afternoon, you can get your hands on the first batch of pumpkins for Halloween. The walkers and runners will be with the first-ever Alzheimer's Memory Walk, which will begin at 8:15 a.m. at the Frederick Brown Jr. Amphitheater. The walk, a three-county fund-raiser for the Alzheimer's Association, represents the organization's largest fund-raising effort. The 3.1-mile walk will take place on the cart paths, beginning and ending at the amphitheater. Alzheimer's is a progressive, degenerative disease of the brain and the most common form of dementia. It affects approximately 4 million Americans, including over 120,000 Georgia residents. The bikers are also connected with a fund-raiser. The "Riding the Line" bike team from Williams Natural Gas will stop at Peachtree City Hall between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. for a break. The team is raising $12 million for the United Way charities during their ride along the 2,000-mile gas pipeline that runs from New York City to Houston, Texas. The bikers will receive a proclamation in honor of their fund-raising efforts. Also, the Peachtree City Volunteer Fire Department will begin its annual pumpkin sale Saturday afternoon. The delivery truck is expected to make it to town after 1 p.m. with the pumpkins available thereafter on a first-come, first-serve basis at the stations on north Peachtree Parkway north of Ga. Highway 54 and on the south Peachtree Parkway station south of Crosstown Road.
