Villa Estates office request is withdrawn

Developers have withdrawn a request to use a subdivision lot on Ga. Highway 54 for an office building.

The county zoning staff and the Planning and Zoning Commission had recommended denial of the request from George and Brian Curreri and Beverly Koumoulas to remove a 1.9-acre building lot from Fayette Villa Estates, on Hwy. 54 at Brittany Way, and change its zoning to O-I (office-institutional).

The county has special rules in place that allow office zoning for properties fronting Hwy. 54, but commissioners said they have no intention of applying those rules to land that's already part of a platted subdivision.

The Fayette County Commission is scheduled to act on the request Thursday, Sept. 28, but zoning administrator Kathy Zeitler said this week the request has been withdrawn.
