Sunday is everyday at Brooks Methodist By CAROLYN CARY There are strong, active ministries for children, youth and adults, an active music ministry, men's and women's groups, Bible studies and helping in the creation of a memorial garden. Said its pastor, the Rev. Steve Scholfield, "We want to continue to be faithful to God's call to make disciples and to help people recognize God's presence in their whole lives." There is activity at the church in one form or another every day of the week. "Kids Alive" meets each Sunday at 5 p.m. and is a program for children, and the United Methodist Youth also meet at this time; the Southern Bells Bellringers meet at 5:30 on Sundays; Mondays find the Scouts on hand, Tuesdays find the study of Luke going on, Wednesdays are Bible study and Chancel Choir, Thursdays are staff meeting; Fridays the Kids Connection is participating in various events. The membership is currently nearing 400 and the trustees will be meeting soon on a possible expansion program. They will discuss the addition of an educational building that would hold 10 classrooms and three large youth and children's rooms. Expansion of the sanctuary also will be discussed with taking out the back wall, widening and lengthening the sanctuary and adding 180 to 200 seats. One project that has come along in the past year is the memorial garden. In place is an arbor, a waterfall and pond, and a 20-foot wooden cross. Still in the works will be walking paths and a small chapel up behind the waterfall. The trustees and members feel that the spirit of the church is special as the members new and old care deeply for each other. The sweet spirit of the church upon entering its doors can be felt by everyone and can be passed on to others. Sunday morning worship services are at 8:45 and 11 with Sunday School at 9:45. The church is at 119 Morgan Mill Road, Brooks, and can be reached at 770-719-7593.
