Fayette County's outdoor burning
ban, designed to help improve air quality, will be officially lifted Oct.
1.
The ban also helped the area get through an unusually dry summer, said
Capt. Pete Nelms of the Fayette County Department of Fire and Emergency
Services. If the burn ban hadn't been in place anyway, it likely would
have been enacted because of the drought conditions, he added.
Once the outdoor burning ban is lifted, outdoor burning will be permitted
during daylight hours and by permit only. Anyone wanting a burn permit
for unincorporated Fayette County, Tyrone, Brooks and Woolsey should call
the automated burn permit line at 770-461-1321, ext. 5468.
Contractors who want to burn debris from cleared land should contact the
department headquarters at 770-461-1321, ext. 5414 for a commercial burn
permit.
The department wants all residents to use safe outdoor burning procedures
and extinguish all fires before dark.
