Hi-Fi Buys coming to Fayetteville

Developers of the Fayette Promenade retail center on Ga. Highway 85 in the northern part of Fayetteville have announced that Hi-Fi Buys and Mattress King will be joining Kinko's and Simmons Bettersleep when the center opens early next year.

A representative of the developer said at last week's Fayetteville Planning and Zoning Commission meeting that "a major consumer electronics retailer" was negotiating for space at the center, which will sit directly across from Home Depot at Fayette Pavilion, but she would not name the company at that time. However, a sign on the property now says that Hi-Fi Buys, Mattress King and Verizon Wireless are on the way.

A three-acre portion of the 30 acres owned by Fayette Promenade LLC has been approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission for development of about 31,000 square feet of retail space.

The developers have returned to the Planning and Zoning Commission this month for approval of revised elevations, which include an added mezzanine to the building architecture. That will require a "pop-up" roof addition at the rear of the building, according to city staff, which recommended approval of the request. A P&Z vote will take place at next Tuesday's meeting.

Fayette Promenade is not the same company that developed the Uptown Square shopping center next door, which includes Barnes & Noble as well as Linens & Things. A Fayette Promenade representative said there has been some confusion about that, with some city officials displeased over how the Linens & Things development turned out.

The only area where those two parties are connected is the agreement to develop the loop access road that runs in front of the site and will eventually become a public road. Since the Uptown development only has right-in/right-out access from Hwy. 85, the road was built to allow traffic back onto the highway in the opposite direction by way of the traffic light next to Office Depot.

The initial three-acre tract that has already been approved will not contain anything as large as Barnes & Noble or Linens & Things, but larger tenants on future portions of the overall site are possible, depending upon the market and interest from prospective tenants.
