The Fayette County Department
of Fire and Emergency Services recently received its national accreditation
from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).
The department became the first such agency in Georgia to achieve the
status, which involves a grueling self-assessment process. Fayette County
is one of 38 accredited agencies recognized by CFAI.
Fire Chief Jack Krakeel accepted the award on behalf of the department
at the CFAI's meeting in Dallas, Tex. on August 24.
The accreditation process provides agencies with improvement models to
assess their service delivery and performance internally before working
with a team of peers from other agencies to evaluate the self assessment
they had completed.
The department will be recognized at an upcoming Board of Commissioners
meeting to honor its work toward meeting the goal.
