Local woman dies in wreck at home

A local woman apparently died behind the wheel of her car at home recently, according to police.

Wilma Johnson Estes, 82, of Fayetteville, had crashed the car into a tree near the driveway of her home on Antioch Road, said Lt. Bryan Woodie of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department. Estes was found by a family member who came to her home to visit Sunday afternoon, but the crash likely occurred before then, he added.

No foul play is suspected, Woodie said, but Georgia law requires an autopsy to be performed because the death was unattended by a coroner, he added. The autopsy should reveal if her death was caused by a medical condition, Woodie said.

Estes was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident, according to police.
