A Fayette County man was found
not guilty of sexual battery in state court Friday.
A six-member jury declined to convict Kevin Lee Mills on allegations that
he inappropriately touched his 16-year-old stepdaughter while they were
alone in their home May 1 of this year.
During the trial Thursday, the victim recanted her original statements
about the incident to police. State Court Solicitor Steve Harris introduced
a letter she wrote to school officials detailing the allegations.
Also put into evidence were the allegations that the victim swore to on
the application for an arrest warrant.
Defense attorney James Studdard argued that the victim called police only
to get her father out of the house.
Mills testified that his stepdaughter also resented him for an affair
he previously had in Florida.
When the incident allegedly occurred, Mills said he was resting his head
on the victim's lap using her "as a pillow."
