Liquor by the drink on F'ville ballot Nov. 7?

Voters in Fayetteville could be deciding this November whether they want liquor by the drink available in the city.

A petition was submitted Friday to City Hall by local resident Lane Brown asking for a referendum, Mayor Kenneth Steele said at Monday night's City Council meeting. The document has been forwarded to the election board for verification, he added.

If the signatures are verified and the petition is found to be valid, a special election will take place Nov. 7 at the Depot in Fayetteville, the same day as the General Election.

Since the law prohibits this vote from being taken outside the city, Fayetteville residents whose general voting precincts are outside the city will have to make two trips to vote that day if they want to take part in both elections, Steele said.
