Hecht appointed
to state panel on family violence
Lt. Gov Mark Taylor has appointed
state Sen. Greg Hecht to the Commission on Family Violence.
Prior to his time in the state legislature, Hecht served as an assistant
district attorney for four years, and prosecuted hundreds of child molestation
and child abuse cases. In addition, he is serving his eighth year as a
Boy Scouts leader, his 11th year on the Alzheimers' Support Services Board,
and his seventh year as a Partner in Education reader to elementary school
children.
Hecht will take over the responsibilities of Sen. David Scott from Atlanta
at the end of the year.
"Senator Hecht's legislative record makes him an excellent choice
as a member of the commission," said Taylor. "His record as
co-author of court appointed special advocate legislation to protect abused
and neglected children, his criminal background checks legislation for
day care employees, his proposed legislation increasing penalties against
child molesters, and his co-authorship of the Domestic Violence Prevention
Act of 1999 make Greg ideally suited to serve on the commission."
Hecht said, "As a prosecutor, I saw firsthand the devastating effects
of violence within several family situations from unimaginable circumstances.
Usually, children are the most vulnerable victims. I am looking forward
to protecting families from violence."
Hecht represents portions of Clayton, Douglas, Fayette, and Fulton counties.
