Fayette County commissioners
Thursday will consider starting construction on water lines to deliver
raw water to the county's new water treatment plant under construction
on Ga. Highway 92.
Bids start at about $1 million for the 30-inch line, which will bring
water from the new Horton Creek Reservoir, said county water director
Tony Parrott. Bids were opened by the county Water Committee in its meeting
this morning, and commissioners are expected to award the bid tomorrow
The meeting is at 7 p.m. at the County Administrative Complex.
Construction crews hope to put the roof on the main building at the water
plant within about three weeks, Parrott said, and are on track for the
scheduled May 2001 opening.
The $12 million water treatment plant is expected to add six million gallons
a day to Fayette's drinking water supply, bringing the total treated water
capacity to 20 mgd.
Bates Engineers Inc. is building the plant.
Commissioners Thursday also will give special recognition to Sen. Greg
Hecht, who represents parts of Fayette and three other counties. Hecht
will receive the Legislative Service Award from the Association County
Commissioners of Georgia, a lobbying and educational organization for
county governments.
