A student at Sandy Creek High
School was arrested last Wednesday for possession of a weapon on school
grounds.
Derik Alan Dunlap, 17, was arrested by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department
Wednesday around lunchtime, according to jail records.
Wayne Robinson, the director of secondary school operations for Fayette
County Schools, said the sophomore had a box knife on his key chain. The
knife was not used in a threatening manner, he added.
The punishment handed down to Dunlap was a 10-day suspension pending the
results of a disciplinary tribunal hearing, which has been scheduled for
Wednesday, Sept. 20, Robinson said.
