Ram
Development company's appeal of the denied
concept plan for the proposed Wal-Mart Superstore
has been delayed yet again.
This
time, Ram officials requested the delay so
attorneys for both sides could continue to meet
and discuss their differences. The Peachtree City
Planning Commission has denied the concept plan
submitted to the city, in large part because of
beliefs that the development won't comply with
the city's traffic ordinance.
The
Wal-Mart would be next to a Home Depot store
that's coming to Ga. Highway 54 near the
Planterra Ridge subdivision. The concept plan for
Home Depot was approved late last year.
The
major dispute between the city and Ram
Development is in the estimated number of traffic
the Wal-Mart would generate. The city's traffic
consultants, Dames and Moore, have argued that
the traffic generated by Wal-Mart would
essentially cripple that area, which is near the
traffic-snarled intersection of Ga. highways 54
and 74.
Ram's
traffic estimates are different, according to
officials for the company. Ram also takes the
position that the Wal-Mart store isn't subject to
the traffic ordinance because the concept plan
was submitted before the ordinance was adopted.
At
Monday's council meeting, the issue was tabled
until the next council meeting, which will be
Wednesday, Sept. 20, one day earlier than normal.
