News Briefs Crews will soon be extending
Fayette County water lines up Ga. Highway 314.County
commissioners Thursday awarded a $364,460 contract to Steele and Associates
to install the lines, subject to approval of the Georgia Department of
Transportation and the water system's consulttants, Mallett and Associates.
The city of Fayetteville proclaimed
Sept. 9-15 to be National Assisted Living Week, and an official proclamation
was presented by the City Council to a representative of Azalea Estates,
the assisted living facility on the east side of town. The council also voted Tuesday
night to change the name of Milledge Avenue to Orchard View. The road
in question previously shared both names, with Milledge Avenue extending
a hundred yards off South Jeff Davis Drive until it enters the Pecan Ridge
subdivision, where it became Orchard View. Two driveways are located on
the affected road, but no addresses are affected by the name change. The county's local high school
sports teams will be busy Tuesday. The Fayette County Lady Tigers host Riverdale in softball at McCurry Park at 5 p.m. The Lady Tigers face North
Clayon in a home volleyball match, also at 5. McIntosh has a three-way home volleyball match at 4:45, with East Coweta and Starr's Mill coming in for a visit. The Lady Chiefs hit the softball field at 4:30 in Newnan to face the Lady Cougars.
