to reconsider Katz rezoning

The Peachtree City Planning
Commission will discuss the revamped rezoning request from John Wieland
Homes regarding the Katz property at its meeting Monday night.
After originally seeking to put 400 homes on the 100-acre tract, Wieland
amended its proposal to request 300 homes. The company wants the land,
off Ga. Highway 74 north, to be rezoned from agricultural use to general
residential-4, which allows a maximum of four units per acre.
The cutting of 100 homes from the original proposal was largely due to
input from the West Village Task Force, according to company officials.
Wieland officials briefly presented the reduced number of homes to the
Peachtree City Council two weeks ago. But council decided to kick the
rezoning back to the Planning Commission for further study because 100
fewer homes represents a radical change in the plans.
Several council members indicated that the amended proposal was an improvement,
but they didn't commit to supporting the change.
The proposal still includes a 100-foot tree buffer between the subdivision
and the railroad track that borders the eastern side of the property.
Wieland is prepared to make the argument that the rezoning is appropriate
because land adjoining the property to the south was recently rezoned
GR-4 also: the Cedarcroft subdivision.
