PTC library to
hold Galileo reception
The Peachtree City Library
will host a reception Thursday, Sept. 21 to honor the fifth anniversary
of Galileo, the state's online virtual library.
The reception will include a program beginning at 7 p.m. featuring a Galileo
"teach-in" by library technology/training manager Jill Kuhns.
Light refreshments will be served.
Seating is limited, so patrons are asked to call early to reserve seats
at 770-631-2520.
Galileo provides access to multiple information resources, including over
100 databases indexing thousands of full-text articles in a variety of
publications such as scholarly journals, encyclopedias, government publications
and electronic books.
The network was originally available only to Georgia's public college
institutions, but now it's available to Georgia citizens through the library
system.
Galileo was searched over eight million times in 1999, as opposed to 300,000
searches recorded in 1995 when it first began.
The Peachtree City Library will be joining other libraries statewide for
the Galileo celebration. The city's reception will coincide with Galileo
Day, which was declared by the Georgia state legislature.
