gets public hearing

Residents curious about Senoia's
latest annexation efforts will get to have their say at the end of this
month.
During Monday night's Senoia City Council meeting, Mayor Joan Trammell
announced that a public hearing is set for Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. to discuss
a 100-acre annexation on Rockaway Road.
If the tract is annexed into the city, it would be zoned R-40, which is
the city's newest zoning designation that increases density, but preserves
green space.
Under the zoning, developer Steve Entrekin could build as many as 110
homes, according to city planner Bill Johnston, but would still have to
maintain 25 percent of the site as green space.
At Monday night's meeting, resident Mary Provost-Demko urged the council
to approve the annexation.
"Dan [husband] and I believe that R-40 zoning with green space option
and sewers is more environmentally responsible than zoning 1.6-acre lots
with septic tanks," she said.
She still believes the city needs to study future annexations and address
such questions as water quality and looking at the services provided to
each neighborhood, but thinks this annexation will work.
"We appreciate all the hard work you and the Planning Commission
have done. It is a difficult task to lead the flock forward and, like
the geese in V-formation, we honk you on," she said.
She then took a small horn out of her folder and honked her approval to
the City Council.
The Planning Commission gave unanimous approval to the annexation and
zoning last week. But, like any annexation, the county has to weigh in
on it under recently enacted House Bill 489 legislation.
City Administrator Leonard Thompson said he has told the developer that
if the city loses a case still pending before the Georgia Supreme Court,
the annexation could be null and void.
"He was willing to take that chance," Thompson said.
