Senoia's mayor endorses McKoy

In one of the more surprising turns this election season, Senoia Mayor Joan Trammell has decided to endorse Marvin McKoy for the County Commission, District 1 race.

The move stunned long time politician and current Commissioner Vernon "Mutt" Hunter.

"In all my years, I've never seen anything like this before," he said.

The move was the latest in a tenuous relationship between the small eastern Coweta town and the County Commission.

Trammel explained that she chose to endorse McKoy because he said he would be willing to listen to the city's concerns.

The mayor has been upset by the county's actions in recent annexation dis
cussions and in telling the city that it could no longer handle many of the city's routine traffic calls to the 911 center.

"I think it would have been hypocritical of me to do anything else after we've had problems with the county," she said.

For his part, Hunter said he is sorry Trammell perceives the situation the way she does.

"I'm sorry the mayor and I have problems, but I want the citizens of Senoia to
know that this county will always work to serve the residents," he said.

Hunter pointed out that decisions made by the commission were made by five individuals, and not just him.

But Trammell sees it differently.

"There's been no cooperation by the county to work with us and he's the most powerful one up there," she said.
