A representative of the Georgia
Regional Transportation Authority will talk about the new super agency's
role in Fayette County during a meeting of the County Commission today.
Rob Alexander, director of governmental relations for GRTA, will address
the board.
Local politicians' reactions ranged from suspicion to outright hostility
recently when GRTA officials announced their intention to "take jurisdiction"
over local governments' land use planning functions.
Also on the agenda today, John DeLash will ask the board to begin the
process of abandoning unused right of way that resulted from a realignment
of Sandy Creek Road at its intersection with Ga. Highway 54. The realignment
created a triangle of property that is not being used.
Executive assistant Carol Chandler will update the commissioners on its
board, committees and authorities, and the group will recognize planning
director Chris Venice and senior planner Pete Frisina for their recent
work in stimulating local response to the U.S. Census.
Fayette County led Georgia in response to the Census Bureau mail-out for
the second decade in a row.
Commissioners will meet at 3:30 p.m. at the County Administrative Complex.
