News Briefs

The Fayetteville City Council is conducting its regular meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at City Hall instead of its usual Monday, because of the Labor Day holiday.
New business on the agenda includes the proposed renaming of Milledge Avenue to Orchard View, approval of the 2001 Local Assistance Road Program, and a proposal concerning a traffic signal timing study.

A public hearing is scheduled to consider revocation of the business license for The Market, the teen club shut down by police a few weeks ago. Official action on the license by the council is necessary, but city officials say the issue is moot since the club is already closed and an attorney for the club's manager stated Tuesday in a Superior Court hearing that it will reopen.

The annual Powers Crossroads County Fair and Arts Festival will be this weekend at the Powers Crossroads Plantation. Hours are 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday. Call 770-253-2011 for information.

An adult poetry group is being formed and will meet for the first time Friday, Sept. 15, 7 p.m. at the Fisher-Lee Coffee House. The idea is to have a small group of poetry lovers meet twice a month to hear poetry of good taste. Published poets from all periods and styles, personal favorites and local authors can be selected. Anyone interested should call Fisher-Lee at 770-716-8191 to reserve a space for the Sept. 15 reading. For information about the group, call John Hoyle at 678-817-9580.
