FCHS 75th birthday ornanments available

Fayette County High School will turn 75 years old this year.

To commemorate the school’s birthday, the Tiger Import/Export Group is selling Fayette County High School ornaments for $5. These ornaments are made of brass and depict the school emblem.

They may be purchased at any of the home football games at Fayette County High School, or from any student who is taking applied communications from TIG sponsor Paula Anderson.

Proceeds from the ornament sales will help offset the cost of hosting students from Scotland who will be visiting TIG students this spring.

A committee of teachers and alumni is planning a gala during homecoming weekend to commemorate the school’s birthday. During this weekend, a representative from the Georgia Department of Education will visit Fayette County High School to formally present the school with a certificate which establishes it as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence.

TIG is affiliated with Achievers International Georgia, an organization that matches schools in Georgia with those in the United Kingdom, Europe and Africa.
The two school groups form trading companies, then host students from their partner school, usually in the spring of the year.

The Fayette County High students are partnered with Doon Academy in Dalmellington, Scotland.

Fayette students have visited Doon the past two years and hosted 15 students and two teachers from Doon last year. Teachers report the visits have provided students an excellent learning experience in economics, history, communication skills, social and technical skills.
