A decision on filing charges against two Peachtree City police officers
for allegedly providing alcohol to an underage girl should come at the
end of this week.
The officers, who were off-duty at the time, have denied the charges levied
by an employee of Chilis restaurant, police officials have said.
Both men, who have not been identified by police, were not immediately
reprimanded while the investigation took place.
The inquiry of the July 25 incident was handled by the Peachtree City
Police Department, and the file was later handed over to Fayette County
Solicitor Steve Harris. A meeting between the solicitor and police officials
has been scheduled for Thursday.
Police have said the 19-year-old woman categorically denies
that the officers furnished her with alcohol and the allegation that she
consumed alcohol at all.
The woman had left the establishment before the manager came up front
after being notified by an employee, according to a statement from the
police department. She had joined the two officers at their table in the
lounge area though neither had invited her, the statement added.
Peachtree City Police Chief Jim Murray has indicated that even if criminal
charges arent filed, the officers may have violated internal department
policy and they could be reprimanded for such violations.
