Frustrated customer threatens lawsuit

Fayette resident says he is planning to file a class action lawsuit against MediaOne/ATT to address poor service from the cable television giant.

In a letter to the editor mailed Monday, Randolph Mills of Fayetteville asks for information from other residents who want better cable service.

“It will not cost you anything to participate except a letter to me explaining your problems (detailed if possible with dates and what it cost you in inconvenience),” he said in the letter.

“I’m tired of paying for something they can’t deliver,” he said.

Mills’ action comes at the same time that Fayette County government officials are pressing the company for better service as well. The company provides local cable service under a franchise agreement with the county.

AT&T Communications company recently bought out MediaOne and Wometco, the two cable companies serving Fayette, and the county transferred its franchise agreement to the new owners.

But Mills said the takeover by AT&T hasn’t helped. “The name may be changing, but the reception and service still remain as poor as when I first had the cable installed seven years ago,” he said.

Mills asks residents to send information to him at 135 Butterfield Lane, Fayetteville 30214.
