Coweta County could see another new hospital after Newnan Hospital officials unveiled plans for a new facility this week.

Newnan Hospital Board of Directors President Chip Barron said Tuesday the hospital plans to build a $48 million, three story facility on its present site.

The facility will be a 75-bed, all private room located on Jackson Street. It will be 167,795 sq.ft covering 10.3 acres. Barron said the facility would be funded through hospital reserves and revenue bonds.

Barron added hospital officials have already submitted a plan to the State Division of Health Planning to obtain a Certificate of Need.

“We want to continue to provide for the healthcare needs of our community. We think our county deserves modern healthcare provided in an appropriate setting. A setting that si convenient to home, where patients are familiar with the staff and doctors,” he said.

Newnan Hospital is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year.
In July, officials at Newnan’s Emory Peachtree Regional Hospital announced their intent to build a new facility.

An application was filed with the state for a Certificate of Need to replace the current 38-year-old facility.

“According to two independent surveys, Coweta residents would welcome the convenience of a state-of-the-art hospital within the county,” said Emory Peachtree CEO Linda Jabinsky, “partly one associated with a nationally recognized teaching hospital.”
Jeff Strane, chairman of the hospital’s Board of Trustees, echoed Jabinsky’s comments.

“We have deliberated every aspect of this major step with the needs of the community foremost in mind. As our population continues to increase, so does our mandate to provide care in an environment that offers optimum efficiency and convenience to our patients, physicians and staff,” he said.

The hospital currently provides the area’s only obstetrical labor delivery service, plus 24-hour emergency services, workplace health programs and outpatient testing.

The new facility would be located on Bullsboro Drive in Newnan.
