Council calls off
workshop By MONROE ROARK

The
Fayetteville City Council has once again decided
that it is unnecessary to conduct a workshop
prior to its regular meeting.
The
workshop scheduled for tonight has been cancelled
due to a lack of agenda items, City Clerk Judy
Stephens said Monday. The regular meeting will be
Monday at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
The
other workshop scheduled for this month, set for
Aug. 2 before the Aug. 7 regular meeting, was
called off for the same reason.
The
only item likely to be voted on Monday is a
contract with the state Department of
Transportation for the construction of Jeff Davis
Drive turn lanes from Lanier Avenue to Jimmy
Mayfield Boulevard. The contract is expected to
amount to $224,357.70.
The
remainder of the $550,000 total cost will be
picked up by the impact fee fund, according to a
city staff memo. City officials expect to bid the
project within two months.
Public
hearings are on the agenda concerning the
annexation and rezoning request for the proposed
Deer Pointe development on the west side of town,
but those will not be ruled on because the
Planning and Zoning Commission has not yet voted
on the development plan and is expected to table
it for another month at Tuesday's regular
meeting.
