Applicants for a proposed Big 10 Tires store in west Fayetteville are
at odds with the city over just exactly what type of store it is.
A request for a special exception to operate automotive repair in a C-3
(commercial) zoning district for the site in question, on LeMans Drive
off Ga. Highway 54 West, was recommended for denial by city staff to the
Planning and Zoning Commission earlier this week, but a representative
of Big 10 Tires said the store should not be classified as an auto repair
business, but rather a tire retail establishment that happens to do occasional
minor auto repair when necessary.
While a Big 10 Tires official said that stores in the metro Atlanta area
only average about 20 customers per day, both commissioners and local
residents expressed concern about the possible noise problems that could
result from tire installation and other services that are typically offered
at Big 10 Tires locations.
The commission will consider the request again at its Aug. 22 meeting.
The Fayette County Board of Education is considering buying sewer service
from the town of Tyrone for its Sandy Creek school complex and shutting
down the schools land application treatment plant. The board will
discuss the matter at its meeting Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the board room
of the district offices at 210 Stonewall Ave.
The group also will hear preliminary recommendations from the Facilities
Advisory and Action Committee, and there will be a called session for
approval of new personnel.
